Lexus . How to Remove the Power Window Motor On a '95 Ford MustangThe power window motor of the 1995 Ford Mustang is located inside the door frame and is mounted with three mounting screws to the frame. The window motor can wear out occasionally, causing the window to get stuck open or not allowing it to operate properly. Removing the window motor is a job that you can complete in about an hour. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Open-end wrench Screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Raise the power window all the way to the top of the 1995 Ford Mustang window frame and unfasten the negative battery cable from the vehicle post with an open-end wrench to prevent electric shock while removing the power window motor. 2 Unfasten the screws on the interior door panel with a screwdriver and gently pull the door panel away from the door frame. Disconnect the electrical wiring connectors from the back of the door panel and set the panel out of the way. 3 Pull the plastic lining back so you can see the regulator mounting plate and window motor. Unfasten the screws on the regulator mounting plate with a screwdriver and move the plate aside so you can access the window motor. 4 Unfasten the three mounting screws on the power window motor with a screwdriver and remove the window motor from the Ford Mustang door frame. Tips & Warnings Always unfasten the negative battery cable of the 1995 Ford Mustang to prevent electric shock when attempting to remove the power window motor.
Lexus . Window Regulator InstructionsIn order to drive a vehicle in safety and comfort with complete visibility, we rely on clean windows. We lower windows in the Summer months for air circulation, and we close them during the Winter months when the temperatures dip. Nothing can be more frustrating than a window that refuses to lift or lower, or has become derailed from the inside mechanism. The window regulator holds the window in place, and through a series of levers and joints, raises and lowers the window into the proper locking position. When the regulator fails, due to wear and age, it must be replaced as a unit. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Owner's repair manual Screwdrivers Socket set and wrench Door panel extractor tool Regulator Silicone spray Lithium grease Step by Step : 1 Place the vehicle in park or neutral with the emergency brake set. Roll the window down, either by crank or the window control. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Open the door for access to the door panel. Remove the screws that hold the door handle guard, arm rest and automatic window control facing, if so equipped. 2 Use a door panel extractor to remove the manual hand crank by popping the retaining clip free on the back of the handle, if so equipped. For the automatic control, take the screws out with a screwdriver. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the door panel to the door frame. 3 Insert the door panel extractor into the seam between the door panel and frame. Pull up on the extractor tool to pop the retaining clips around all the edges of the door panel. Pull the door panel upward and away from the frame. 4 Disconnect any wire jack for a speaker or automatic window control on the back of the door panel. Pull it off the frame. Pull the plastic weather guard down from the top of the door panel and let it hang from the bottom. Use a socket to remove the bolts that hold the window glass to the regulator frame. One bolt might be adjustable, requiring you only to loosen it. Tip the window at an angle and pull it out from the top of the door frame. 5 Use a socket to remove the three or four bolts that hold the window regulator to the frame. A few bolts might be slotted, requiring you to loosen them only. Collapse the window regulator in a scissor-like fashion and pull it out of the access hole. Spray some silicone lubricant on the inside of the vertical window tracks inside the frame. Apply lithium grease to all the scissor joints on the new regulator. 6 Put the new regulator inside the access hole and expand it to align with the mounting holes. Insert the mounting bolts through the door panel into the threaded holes of the regulator by hand. Tighten them with a socket and wrench. Push the window glass down through the top seam into the window tracks and slide it down into the regulator seat at both ends. 7 Make sure to adjust the window properly in the regulator mount at both ends. Insert the bolts in the regulator that hold it to the window and tighten them with a socket. Use the crank handle, or automatic window control to roll the window up and down, making sure it aligns properly. Temporarily connect then disconnect the negative battery cable to do this for the automatic version. 8 Insert the rest of the bolts for the regulator linkage in the frame and tighten them with a socket. Push the plastic weather guard back into place on the adhesive strip. Set the door panel close to the frame and connect the speaker and automatic window control wires back into their connection jacks. Place the door panel up against the frame, and starting at the bottom, push the door panel clips back into the frame holes, until all the spring clips snap back into their holes. 9 Place the arm rest back into position and insert the screws. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver. Place the door handle cover back into its seat and insert the screw into it. Tighten the screw with a screwdriver. If you have removed an automatic window control, place in back into its mount and insert the screws. Step by Step : 10 Tighten the automatic window control screws with a screwdriver. For the manual hand crank, insert the U-clip back into the back slot of the crank handle and push the door handle back onto its spline shaft until it snaps in position. Reconnect the negative battery cable with a socket. Turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Run the window up and down several times, if automatic. Use the hand crank to run the window up and down, checking for proper window alignment and operation. Tips & Warnings Use your owner's repair manual for the exact location of all the window regulator bolts and adjustment slots. Each make and model vehicle differs in design and configuration. We study, practice, and take the test in a state of high anticipation that's marred only by the fear of failing and being "grounded" forever. Yet most of us succeed in passing and hop happily into our cars, headed for the freedom of the open road. Unfortunately, most of us don't know the first thing about the machines we're licensed to drive — and this can turn a ticket to freedom into a ticket to trouble. I'm not necessarily talking about physical danger. State motor vehicle bureaus have made fairly sure that, before we can get a driver's license, we know how to drive defensively and can handle a car under poor driving conditions. What I'm referring to is the kind of trouble that comes from depending on other people to care for and repair our vehicles. If you're like most people, you probably tend to drive around until something goes wrong and then incur the expense of replacing worn and burnt-out parts — or the entire engine — when low-cost, regular maintenance could have kept your wheels turning for a long time. About This Book Whether you're trying to cut expenses, are tired of being patronized, or have just fallen in love with your first car, this book tells you how your car works, what it needs in the way of tender loving care, and how to keep from getting ripped off if you have to entrust repairs to someone else. By handling the simple maintenance and tune-ups and being able to diagnose trouble and perform the less complex repairs yourself, you'll earn the respect of your family, your mechanic, and your car — and you'll feel pretty good about it! In this book, I introduce you to the wonders of the internal combustion engine and to the even more wondrous newfangled engines of the future. After you get familiar with the principal parts and systems involved, I gently lead you into basic maintenance and repair tasks that you can do yourself. Don't worry about getting in over your head. If a repair can get you into trouble if you attempt to do it yourself, I tell you how to be sure the work is done properly by a professional at a fair price. I also warn you when you should tackle a job only with an experienced friend or automotive teacher at your elbow. So don't chicken out on me! Start with the easy stuff and then take on the more challenging tasks. You'll love yourself for it, and your vehicle will love you, too. Believe me, I've been there.... Lexus . Nissan 240SX. * Auto Repair For Dummies Hou) I Became Intimately \nVoiVed u/ith My Car (and Why fault Want to Bo It, Too) Before I moved to California, I was an ordinary urban cliff dweller: I had only a nodding acquaintance with cars. Ours was locked up in a garage, to be summoned forth by my husband for excursions to "the country"; otherwise, I used subways, buses, and taxis. All the maintenance on our car was done by the garage that housed it. My sole contribution to our automotive life was choosing the color whenever we bought a new vehicle, and my main purpose in getting a driver's license was so that I could go to the supermarket during our summers in the country or drive down to the lake for a swim. I rarely, if ever, drove in the city because doing so seemed a cross between foolishness and suicide. When we moved to California, I must confess that my enthusiasm for a life in the sun was considerably dampened by the knowledge that this would also include a life on the freeway, but then I began to sow my oats. It started with a solo marketing excursion, and then that marvelous feeling of freedom that Lexus . Laws about booster seats in PA?

Because the family budget had been considerably strained by the move West, the best I could do was a six-year-old Mustang with more than 70,000 miles on it. A friend of mine who had grown up in Los Angeles — and was therefore a qualified automotive expert — checked out the car and pronounced it drivable. He said that it might need "a little work." We took it to a reliable mechanic, who checked it over, tuned it up, and told me that it was "a classic." Thus reassured, I drove the car to the Department of Motor Vehicles to regis ter it. I parked the car, turned off the ignition, locked it, and found that, sitting there in the middle of the parking lot, the car was singing! A bit puzzled, I rechecked the ignition and the radio, but everything was truly shut off. And still the car sang. By the time I returned, all was quiet. But that night, when I took the family out to dinner, old Tweety Bird began to sing again. Several weeks of filling and refilling the radiator, changing the coolant, putting gunk Lexus . Introduction So I conned a friend of mine (who happened to have two sets of automotive tools) into taking an auto shop class with me at a local adult education center. I discovered that cars are pretty simple things to deal with. Instead of a bewildering array of weird metal objects and miles of hoses that threatened to blow up if I turned a screw in the wrong direction, I soon found that a car is just a series of simple Rube Goldberg mechanisms linked together (with a computer thrown in now and then that even professional mechanics need specialists to deal with). Most maintenance, tune-ups, and many repairs involve only a few, isolated gadgets, and cars are very good about sending out signals telling you clearly what's wrong — if you know how to hear, see, smell, or feel them. Before long, it was no longer enough to be able to communicate with a mechanic; I wanted to be the mechanic myself whenever possible. I learned that the best way to work on a vehicle is to handle it like a baby — take a firm grip on things and do the job without mincing around. Not only did I save money, but Tweety began running better, and I found that I was having fun! To share the good news with everyone else, I sat down and wrote the first edition of this book. Doing it yourself can really pay off in terms of dollars and cents. The major difference between doing the work yourself and taking it to a professional is that professional mechanics often try the most potentially lucrative solution first. If that doesn't do it, they try the next thing, and continue to try things until they hit the right one. This method can cost you a bundle. On the other hand, when you do the diagnosing, you can try the cheaper solutions first. For example, if your engine has been overheating constantly, you replace the radiator cap, pressure-test the system, and check the coolant level and the thermostat before buying and installing a new water pump. And if it finally comes down to changing the pump, you try to find a rebuilt one and install it yourself (which is usually not difficult). The money you save is well worth the effort. Lexus .
